Common questions about how Linked Product Groups differ from Magento's product types, which products and attributes you can link, and why a product might not show up as a swatch.
How is Linked Products different from a configurable product?
A configurable product is one product with hidden child products, so shoppers pick options on a single page. A Linked Product Group connects products that each have their own page, URL, images, price, and reviews, and its swatches link between those pages. Use Linked Products when each variant deserves its own page in search results and categories, such as one page per color. See Linked Products on the Storefront.
Can a configurable product be part of a Linked Product Group?
Yes. A configurable product can be a member like any other visible product, and its own options still render on its page, below the linked swatches. You can link one configurable product per color by Color, and let each one keep its sizes. See Linked Products with Configurable Products.
Can a product belong to more than one group?
No. A product belongs to one Linked Product Group at most. To move a product, remove it from its current group first, or import a CSV file that lists it in another group, which moves it there. See Moving Products Between Groups.
Why can't I select an attribute as a link attribute?
Link attributes must be product attributes you created, with the Dropdown, Visual Swatch, or Text Swatch input type. Multiple-select attributes and Magento's system attributes can't link products. See Which Attributes Can Link Products.
Why is a product missing from the Add Products panel?
The panel leaves out products that are already in another group, products with Visibility set to Not Visible Individually, and products without a value for every selected link attribute. See Choosing Products for a Linked Product Group.
Why doesn't a group member show up as a swatch on the storefront?
The product page only links to members the current store would show anyway: enabled, visible in catalog or search, assigned to the current website, processed by the catalog indexers, and in stock when out-of-stock products are hidden. If two members share all their link attribute values, only the one with the lower product ID gets the swatch. See Which Products Appear as Linked Product Swatches and Unreachable Products.
Why are the color swatches empty circles?
Your theme's CSS was built before Linked Products was installed, so it lacks the swatch color styles. Rebuild the theme CSS. See Installing Linked Products.
Can I use different groups per store view?
No. Groups and link attributes are global. What you can do per website or store view is switch the swatches off with the Enabled setting. See Configuring Linked Products.
Does Linked Products work with Luma?
No. Linked Products renders on the Hyvä storefront only. The admin features work on any Magento admin theme.
